Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League, today warned from a civil war in Syria that might result from the escalation of conflict in the Arab country, expressing support for the UN-AL peace plan currently being presented by Kofi Annan. In a statement to reporters at the AL's office in the Chinese capital of Beijing, Al-Arabi said the spills of a 14-month violence and bloodshed in Syria might reach neighboring countries. The escalation of military acts in Syria would conduce to a civil war in the country, a situation nobody would like to see, he added.
