Yukio Takasu, Japan's former ambassador to the United Nations, was Wednesday appointed chief of the management department of the world organization, dpa reported. Takasu, who will take over the post held by Angela Kane of Germany, will oversee management of the organization, including the current renovation of the UN headquarters in New York, the costs of which have already exceeded the budget of 1.7 billion dollars allocated to it. Takasu had held various positions in the Japanese Foreign Ministry and most recently was a special advisor on human security to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Ban made the appointment, making Takasu a UN undersecretary general.
