Eleven soldiers and one civilian were killed Wednesday in an attack by suspected communist rebels in the northern Philippines, police said. The soldiers were on their way back to camp when they were ambushed by the guerrillas in the village of Pinaplayan in Tinoc town, Ifugao province, 255 kilometres north of Manila. Senior Superintendent Lawrence Mombael, the provincial police commander, said three soldiers were also wounded in the attack, according to a report of DPA. The soldiers were aboard three trucks and had just attended a ceremony marking the turnover of their command to a new company when they were attacked, said Colonel Miguel Puyao, an army spokesman.
