A huge amount of flammable gas has been leaked after a chemical plant caught fire and exploded in north China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Saturday, according to firefighters. The accident happened around 5 p.m. at Inner Mongolia 3F Fluorochemical Co. Ltd. in the city of Fengzhen. Some tanks containing VDF gas at the facility caught fire, and firefighters were still trying to extinguish the flames at 7 p.m. There are no immediate reports of casualties, and firefighters have rescued three workers from the workshop, situated in a high-rise building, Xinhua reported. The plant, located in an industrial zone, is about 10 km away from the city's downtown area. VDF gas is flammable and narcotic, so areas in the plant's immediate surroundings have been evacuated. An investigation into the cause of the blast is under way.
