The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday summoned its ambassador to Iran Saif bin Mohammed Obeid Al-Za'abi for consultation and cancelled a friendly football match with Iran, reported state media, in the latest protest against a visit by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad to the Iranian-occupied UAE island of Abu-Musa the day before. The UAE News Agency said the Ministry of Foreign affairs of the United Arab Emirates has asked its ambassador to come back for consultations over the issue. Meanwhile the UAE Football Association, announced the cancellation of a friendly scheduled to be held in the country "in solidarity with the country's official stance" condemning Ahmedinejad's visit to the island of Abu Musa.
