The United States will stick to time plan for withdrawing troops from Afghanistan and turning over security operations to local troops by 2014, the White House said Thursday. Spokesman Jay Carney was responding to a question about demands by Afghan President Hamid Karzai that all security responsibilities be turned over to Afghan forces by 2013, a year ahead of schedule. Carney said the strategy was for international forces to shift to a support role in 2013 and hand over full security to Afghan troops in 2014. "That's the mission and we will stick to it," Carney said at the daily press briefing.
