The GCC underscored the importance of all parties in Iraq exert efforts to achieve a lasting and comprehensive political reconciliation to build a secure and stable state based on the enforcement of law and respect of human rights. The statement also called on the Iraqi authorities to abide by all United Nations Security Council's relevant resolutions including border marks, Iraqi farmers compensations and identify the remaining captives and the missing from Kuwait and other countries, repatriation of properties and national archive of Kuwait. On the Syrian issue, the Council discussed the current bloody situation in Syria and its tragic results including the most recent escalation. The GCC lauded the Arab League decision on 12 February 2012 in Cairo calling for stopping the massacre which is aggravating in Syria. In this concern, the GCC expressed disappointment on the failure of the UN Security Council to issue a resolution in support of the Arab League decision on Syria, calling on the world community to continue efforts to try to find a solution to the dilemma in Syria. It welcomed the first Internatioanl Conference for the Friends of the Syrian People held in Tunis on February 24, 2012, calling on the world community to take the necessary firm arrangements and measures to support the will and demands of the Syrian people for change and alleviation of their sufferings.
