In world markets, European stocks ended mixed, as the FTSE 100 in Britain finished slightly lower and the DAX in Germany rose 0.8 percent. Asian markets ended higher, led by the Shanghai Composite rising 1.3 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1.74, or 0.01 percent, to 12,982.95. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.3, or 0.2 percent, to 1,365.74. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 6.77, or 0.2 percent, to 2,963.75.
