The British Foreign Secretary William Hague hailed here today the leading role played by the Arab League (AL), its commitment and insistence to end the state of violence in Syria. The website of the Foreign Office cited Hague as saying that the Arab League has taken a number of significant steps to tighten the diplomatic and economic isolation of the Syrian regime, vowing to proceed with the plan which it adopted on 23 of last January. Hague confirmed Britain's profound belief in internationally concerted efforts in order to increase pressure on the Syrian regime to solve the crisis there. He welcomed AL decision to support Friends of Syria's group which will hold a meeting in Tunis on 24 of February, pointing to the important role assumed by Britain to make the workings of this group a success. -- SPA
