Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono opened here today the 7th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Conference, hosted by Indonesia's House of Representative. Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, Speaker of Majlis Al-Shoura (Consultative Council) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led his country's delegation to the conference. Addressing the opening session, President Yudhoyono confirmed that the Union member chambers were now able to contribute to solving a number of Islamic issues. In a speech before the conferees, Al Al-Sheikh said the Saudi Arabia was and is still an advocate and supporter of the Islamic countries in different critical issues. Under directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always underscored, through its prudent positions, the importance of the fraternity relations among the leaders of Islamic countries and peoples in confrontation of crises and circumstances, he said. The Speaker of Majlis Al-Shura said the conference takes place amid extraordinary and deep changes in our Islamic world, affirming that every new dawn we will be in dire need for cooperation among our OIC member states and peoples as cooperation fortifies the firmness of our unity and ability to overcome problems. He recalled that our Islamic history was evident of solving multi-racial and co-ethic problems. He called on Islamic countries to take the initiative of forging dialogue and negotiation as a base for tackling crises that might ravage parts of the Islamic world. We have to meet the aspirations of our Islamic people to obtain their rights in justice and humanitarian dignity and tackles Islamic crucial issues, particularly the Palestinian issue until the Palestinians establish their independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital, he added. He cast light on the role of the Kingdom along with its GCC partners to restore peace, security and stability to Yemen through the GCC initiative to find solution to the political crisis in the neighboring Arab country. He expressed hope of the establishment of an unified moderate Islamic nation that believes in moderation, tolerance, and sustainable and comprehensive development.
