Jordanian King Abdullah II held talks here today with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on efforts to bring about peace between Palestinians and Israelis. The discussions dealt with Jordan's efforts to push the peace process forward through meetings that were held in Amman recently between Palestinians and Israelis to re-launch peace negotiations between the two sides. King Abdullah II affirmed to President Abbas that Jordan will do its utmost to create an appropriate climate for launching negotiations that address all final status issues, leading to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. King Abdullah II and President Abbas voiced their keenness to continue coordination and consultations on issues of common interest. In a statement following the meeting, the Palestinian President said the meeting aimed at discussing the outcome of the King's visit to the United States. He condemned Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian lands, mainly settlement activities that form an obstacle to peace efforts.
