Presidency Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh Friday condemned the Israeli forces arrest of Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) member, Aziz Dweik, one of Hamas' leaders, 65, at a checkpoint near Ramallah on Thursday. He said: “We strongly condemn the bullying and gangs method used by the Israeli security forces in arresting Dweik, who is a leading Palestinian national figure elected for the legislative council.” “This is a repeated frequent measure by the Israeli authorities with several members of the PLC, who are still detained in Israeli jails, just as the Jerusalemite elected deputies who were subjected to unfair expelling decisions,” said Abu Rudeineh. He called upon the international organizations concerned with freedoms and human rights to condemn this Israeli measure, which “we consider an Israeli attempt to hinder the national reconciliation,” calling to expedite Dweik's release. “The Palestinian leadership is making calls with several parties to prompt the release of Dweik,” he was quoted as saying by Palestine News and Information Agency "WAFA".
