The Democratic Party of Mongolia plans to quit the governing coalition in maneuvering ahead of elections likely to center on the country's recent mining wealth, according to AP. The withdrawal would still leave the Mongolian People's Party with a majority in Parliament if it's finalized. But the move presages bruising elections for Parliament and local councils in June. The Democratic Party chairman said in announcing the withdrawal Thursday that a coalition was no longer needed in today's better economy. The chairman listed as accomplishments the mega-mining projects for gold, copper and coal that are being developed and that boosted growth last year to an estimated 10 percent.
