Wild elephants killed three people and injured two Thursday in south-eastern Nepal, dpa cited police as saying. Three elephants living in the Baniyani forest in the Jhapa district went on a rampage in nearby settlements in Prithvinagar, attacking local residents. Two women died immediately after the attack and a third died in hospital. Police said the elephants also destroyed the homes of those killed. Wild elephants killed three people in separate incidents in the district last month. As human settlements have encroached on forests, deaths caused in wild elephant attacks have risen.
