The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has reaffirmed OIC's enduring support to the Turkish Cypriots in political, economic, social and cultural fields. Ihsanoglu, who concluded an official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ( (TRNC) this morning, had talks with a number of senior TRNC officials during which he reiterated this support. During his visit to TRNC, Ihsanoglu met with President Dervis Eroglu; Speaker of the Parliament Dr. Hasan Bozer; Prime Minister Dr. Irsen Kucuk, Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun; and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Kemal Durust. He also paid a courtesy visit to Rauf Denktas, former President of TRNC, as well as to Talip Atalay, Head of Religious Affairs of TRNC. The OIC Secretary General noted that TRNC is an observer member of the OIC under the title of the Turkish Cypriot State. He referred to a number of Resolutions adopted by the OIC Council of Ministers, the last of which was adopted at the 38th meeting of the Council's Foreign Ministers held in Astana in June 2011. --MORE
