Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu welcomed today the positive meeting between Palestinian National Authority's President Mahmoud Abbas and President of the Political Bureau of 'Hamas' Khaled Meshaal in Cairo. In a press statement issued here this morning, the Secretary-General stressed the importance of the Palestinian national unity to promote the achievements in the international arena, especially after the membership of Palestine in UNESCO and follow-up efforts for membership in the United Nations. The Secretary-General said the internal Palestinian consensus will unite efforts to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people to end the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Al-Quds (Jerusalem).
