AlHijjah 27, 1432, Nov 23, 2011, SPA - The UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan opened here today the 20th Joint GCC-Japan Environment Symposium. The three-day event is organized by the Faculty of Engineering at the UAE University and held under the theme: "Challenges for a Sustainable Environment in the Oil and Gas Industry". In his opening remarks, Sheikh Nahyan said the UAE, under the leadership of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has adopted wise environmental policies and put in place international standards to protect and preserve environmental resources and to improve quality of life. He added that the industry and business communities are well aware of the challenges facing preservation efforts. "This symposium draws its importance from tackling a key issue: how to continue serving our fellow human beings without jeopardizing the beauty of nature," he stated, For his part, Professor Kenji Yamaji, Director-General of the Japan-based Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE), spoke about the possible scenarios for environment protection and cutting emissions in industrial and developing countries by 2050, according to a report of the UAE news agency "WAM".
