AlHijjah 20, 1432, Nov 16, 2011, SPA -- The International Islamic Relief Organization of Saudi Arabia (IIROSA) has warned about the exacerbation of the difficult humanitarian situation afflicting hundreds of children in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and some countries in East Africa due to severe shortages of food and medicine. IIROSA's Secretary-General Dr. Adnan bin Khalil Basha said, "The reports from the offices of the Organization explained that the affected countries are experiencing the greatest humanitarian disaster in the world because of the drought that caused famine. This suffering is increasing day by day and should be contained by providing food aid as 14 million people are starving including 4 million of children." He pointed out that the data from the reports received by the Organization revealed that the 460,000 children suffer from malnutrition in Somalia, about 250,000 children of them are going through serious cases while tens of thousands were killed. The Secretary-General called on all regional and international organizations working in the field of human services to provide food aid to save these children who suffer from the spread of many intestinal diseases, weakening feeble bodies, such as cases of cholera, schistosomiasis, typhoid, meningitis and malaria.
