Office for Humanitarian Affairs on Monday signed a partnership agreement with the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to work more closely on humanitarian emergencies. "We greatly value the partnership we already have with the OIC and its Member States on humanitarian issues," said U.N. Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos in statement issued in U.N N.Y. "This agreement formalizes our intention to work more closely together on relief coordination, fundraising and preparedness, so that we can save more lives." The memorandum of agreement was signed in Jeddah, where the OIC is headquartered. "Together we can better respond to challenges like the desperate humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa," said OIC Secretary General Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu at the signing ceremony. "The UN and OIC can play complementary roles, enhancing humanitarian operations and assisting people more quickly and effectively."
