AlQa'dah 26, 1432, Oct 24, 2011, SPA - The number of dead in a magnitude-7.2 earthquake in eastern Turkey rose to more than 200 Monday morning. The number of dead alone in the city of Ercis in Van province numbered 117, Turkish media reported, citing the government. In the provincial capital, also called Van, about 100 people were killed in the quake, which struck Sunday near the border with Iran. More than 1,000 people were injured, the government was quoted as saying by the German Press Agency "DPA". Emergency responders worked frantically throughout the night in search of survivors as large numbers of people were missing and believed to be buried under rubble.
