AlQa'dah 25, 1432, Oct 23, 2011, SPA -- The 18th International Scientific Conference of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences Started in Doha yesterday under the title "Re-building Bridges between the Muslim World and the West through Technology". Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed Al-Mahmoud said the conference this year coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Islamic World Academy of Sciences. In a speech at the opening of the conference, Al-Mahmoud said that ignorance is the greatest enemy of man and that science enjoys high prestige among Muslims. The three-day conference focuses on topics of science, technology and innovation to achieve sustainable development in the Muslim world. The conference brings together some 150 Islamic figures from more than 45 countries. The Islamic World Academy of Sciences is one of the international institutions of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and began operations in 1986 as an independent institution with international status similar to other international institutions.
