AlQa'dah 23, 1432, Oct 21, 2011, SPA -- Guatemala, Morocco and Pakistan have been elected to the Security Council in a first round of secret balloting for five two-year terms beginning Jan. 1, as AP reported. U.N. General Assembly members on Friday gave each of the three countries the two-thirds majority they needed to be elected to the United Nations' most powerful body. None of the other six countries vying for seats obtained sufficient votes, and the assembly is holding an additional round of balloting. Each country must receive two-thirds of the ballots cast by U.N. members voting, or 129 of the 193 members present Friday.
