AlQa'dah 20, 1432, Oct 18, 2011, SPA - The Quartet of Middle East peacemakers will meet separately with Israeli and Palestinian officials in Jerusalem (Al-QUDS)later this month to attempt to prepare for new Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, the United States said Monday. “Quartet envoys will be meeting with the parties in Jerusalem on October 26,” State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner said. The date would narrowly miss the initial deadline imposed by the Quartet last month, and Toner said the meeting would not include direct Israeli-Palestinian talks. The Quartet-comprised of the United Nations, the United States, the European Union (EU), and Russia-set a 30-day deadline for preliminary talks on September 23, hours after Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas presented a Palestinian bid for statehood at the United Nations. The Quartet also called for a peace agreement by the end of 2012.
