AlQa'dah 13, 1432, Oct 11, 2011, SPA -- Further to the statement dated 17/7/1432H., on the continuing anti-drug fight, a spokesman of the Ministry of Interior gave an account today on the great achievements of security forces, in cooperation with customs department and other security-related bodies, in the fight against drug smugglers, dealers and peddlers over the last seven months. The spokesman said that the concerned security authorities managed during the second quarter of this year 1432 H. to arrest 503, out of them 252 were Saudis and 251 from 24 different nationalities. They were involved in trafficking and selling different kinds of narcotics with the quantities being confiscated by the police. Also apprehended over the third quarter of the year and the first month of the fourth quarter of 1432 H., were 475 accused of being involved in crimes of smuggling, transferring, receiving and selling of drugs estimated to fetch more than SAR 1710648065 in the black market, the statement said, adding that among the arrested were 204 Saudi, 72 Yemeni and 199 from different nationalities. Due to armed resistance from some drug traffickers and dealers who exchanged fire with security men, Corporal Mubarak Mahfouz Al-Rahmani was martyred and eight security men injured in addition to the death of one and injury of three on the side of smugglers and dealers, the statement said. The spokesman concluded that big amounts of raw heroin, cocaine, hashish, drug tablets and different types of drugs in addition to cash amounting to SR6630390 were also confiscated.
