Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas met in Ramallah today Russian ambassador to the Palestinian Authority Alexander Rodokov. President Abbas briefed the Russian Ambassador on the latest Palestinian preparations to go to the Security Council in order to gain full membership in the United Nations for the State of Palestine. He explained that the Palestinian side took the decision to go to the United Nations after exhausting all attempts to resume negotiations with the Israeli side, according to the principles and resolutions of international legitimacy and law. The Palestinian president stressed that the deadlock in the peace process was due to the policy of the Israeli government which refuses commitment to international references pertaining to the peace process and continues settlement in the Palestinian territory.
