The UN Security Council authorized on Friday the deployment of a UN mission to support Libya's transition council in tackling immediate work to rebuild a new government, according to dpa. The 15-nation council unanimously adopted a resolution to send the small UN mission to help the Transitional National Council begin work on post-conflict reconstruction and the restoration of institutions, drafting a new constitution and organizing elections. The council also decided to consider lifting part of the sanctions against Libya to release some of frozen assets, which will allow the transition council to use the funds for reconstruction. The UN General Assembly earlier voted 114-17 to recognize the TNC as the official representative of Libya in the international organization.
