Three miners were killed in a landslide triggered by days of heavy rains in the southern Philippines, a regional police spokesman said Thursday, according to dpa. Four miners were injured in the landslide late Tuesday in New Bataan town in Compostela Valley province, 930 kilometers south of Manila, police Superintendent Jose Curamba said. The dead miners were trapped inside a gold mine tunnel in the village of Manurigao while the four injured were outside the tunnel and were almost buried in the mud, Curamba said. Police have been sent to the village to prevent other miners from mining for gold in the area during the heavy rains.
