Officials said today gunfire and grenade attacks have killed at least 10 people, including a former national lawmaker, in Pakistan's largest city, AP reported. Senior government official Sharfuddin Memon said that former lawmaker Waja Kareem Dad was shot Wednesday in the southern port city of Karachi. Dad was a member of the ruling Pakistan People's Party. Memon is the security adviser to the government of Sindh province, where Karachi is the capital. Karachi has a long history of political, ethnic and sectarian violence, and much of the fighting is blamed on gangs that are said to be affiliated with the main political parties in the city. More than 300 people were killed in Karachi in July alone. -- SPA
