The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is set to patronize on Friday the laying of foundation stone ceremony for the new expansion project for the Grand Mosque which will accommodate more than 1.2 million worshippers, it was reported here today. Officials told the Saudi Press Agency that the financial cost of the buildings expropriated for the project was estimated at more than SR40 billion. They said that the approval of the monarch to construct the news expansion project came to accommodate the increasing numbers of pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors who could not find room inside the grand mosque during rush hours, particularly in Ramadan, Eids and Hajj periods.
