Shares fell Monday on the Seoul stock exchange as fears of a global recession caused panic selling, following last week's market turmoil. The benchmark Kospi index slipped 74.30 points, or 3.8 per cent, to close at a 10-month low of 1,869.45. Declining issues outnumbered advancers 835 to 62. The index fell by as much as 7.4 per cent during trading, the biggest fall in almost two years. The Korea Exchange halted program trading for five minutes, after the Kospi 200 futures tumbled more than 5 per cent for more than one minute. The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market lost 32.86 points to 462.69, a fall of 6.63 per cent, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
