Malaysian rescue officers have recovered the bodies of seven people who were killed by a landslide at a popular hill resort at the weekend, officials confirmed Monday. The landslide followed heavy rainfall at the base of the Cameron Highlands hill resort late Sunday, burying three houses and nine people, a fire and rescue department official said. More than 100 rescue officers were deployed to search for victims and survivors at the scene, around 200 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur. By early Monday, the bodies of seven victims had been found, while two others were rescued with serious injuries and sent to a nearby hospital, district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency. Nearby residents were evacuated to a temporary centre.
