U.S. stocks finished sharply lower Friday, as investors grew increasingly worried that Washington may not reach a deal to raise the debt ceiling before the deadline. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 96.87, or 0.8 percent, to 12,143.24. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 8.39, or 0.7 percent, to 1,292.28. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 9.87, or 0.4 percent, to 2,756.38.
