Pakistan has accorded diplomatic recognition to the newly independent State of the Republic of South Sudan. “The Government of Pakistan has decided to concurrently accredit its Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa as Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of South Sudan”, a foreign office press release issued here on Saturday said. In a message addressed to the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has conveyed the heartiest felicitations of the people and Government of Pakistan to the people and Government of the Republic of South Sudan on attaining independence. The Prime Minister has also congratulated Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit on assuming the high office of the President of the Republic of South Sudan and conveyed best wishes for the success of the leadership and the people of the Republic of South Sudan in nation-building and socio-economic development as well as in laying the foundation for durable peace and prosperity in the broader region. The Prime Minister further stated that “Pakistan wishes to work closely with the Government of the Republic of South Sudan both at bilateral and at international levels to advance the objectives of peace, prosperity and development,” according to a report of the Associated Press.
