Latvians on Saturday overwhelmingly voted in favour of dissolving parliament in a referendum called to combat the power of oligarch businessmen, early results of the poll showed, according to Reuters. A count of votes released on the Central Election Commission website of 409 out of 1,028 polling stations showed 94.7 percent of those who voted, or 164,247 people, backed the dismissal of parliament. "Overall voter participation in the referendum was good," election commission chairman Arnis Cimdars told a news conference. The referendum will lead to a snap election in September.
