The firemen succeeded to put out 21 fires in Siberia over the past day. Some 160 fires are raging on 17,515 hectares on Thursday. Some 53 fires were localized on 6,728 hectares, a source in the regional emergencies center told Itar-Tass on Thursday. The forest fire situation is improving in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Irkutsk Region. The forests were mostly damaged in the fires in the foresaid regions. The number of major fires went down from 18 to 13 fires and the fire area from 15,196 hectares to 11,552 hectares. Three fires on 3,475 hectares were localized. However, an emergency is still in effect in both regions since June 10. Nine major fires engulfed on the forests on the Boguchany, Severo-Yeniseisky, Irbey and Kezhem districts in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Four major fires were reported in the Ust-Ilim, Ust-Kut and the Nizhny Ilim districts in the Irkutsk Region. The fire threat for the settlements does not exist. Some 5,228 people, including emergency workers, forest rangers, volunteers and 739 pieces of machinery are involved in the forest firefighting efforts. The EMERCOM aviation has dropped a total of 464 tonnes of water on the fires.
