A planned visit to Sudan by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Wednesday looked likely to fall foul of an ash cloud hovering over eastern Africa, according to dpa. Westerwelle's departure from Berlin was postponed several times on Wednesday afternoon. The cloud of ash from a volcano in Eritrea has caused several days of travel disruptions across Africa. Westerwelle was due to visit the Sudanese capital Khartoum, the troubled Darfur region as well as the south of the country, which is to declare independence next month.
