At least 10 police were killed in a landmine blast triggered by suspected Maoist rebels in India's central state of Chhattisgarh, officials said Friday. According to dpa, another three policemen were injured in the explosion that took place around midnight Thursday in a forested area in the Dantewada district over 400 kilometers south of state capital Raipur. It was the second Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh within a day after the rebels shot dead five policemen in the nearby Narayanpur district on Thursday morning. "It was such a powerful explosion that it ripped through the anti-landmine vehicle the police team was travelling in," Gulab Singh, an officer at the district police control room, said by phone. "The blast blew up the vehicle and made a 4-meter crater in the ground," he said. Singh said the militants had also opened fire on some injured policemen after the blast.
