At least seven paramilitary troopers were killed in a landmine attack by Maoist rebels in India's central state of Chhattisgarh, police said Wednesday. The attack on a three-vehicle convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) took place Tuesday night in the rebel stronghold of Dantewada, a district located 500 kilometres south of state capital Raipur. "The powerful explosion ripped apart the last vehicle of the convoy killing five troopers on the scene," KL Nand, a local police officer, said by telephone. "Two more CRPF men succumbed to their injuries in a nearby hospital," he added. Another wounded CRPF trooper was being treated at the hospital, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
