Ban Ki-moon on Monday announced his intention to seek another five year term as secretary-general of the United Nations. “I sent a letter to the members of the General Assembly and the Security Council offering humbly myself for consideration of a second term as secretary-general of the United Nations,” Ban told a news conference. Ban, who succeeded Kofi Annan in 2007, was previously the foreign minister of South Korea. With no other candidates seeking the post, Ban's re-election seems assured.
