A fire in a large Ohio chicken facility Tuesday left an estimated 83,000 chickens dead, UPI cited officials as saying. About 70 firefighters from Versailles, Russia, Ansonia and other communities responded to the fire in Darke County near Versailles, WHIO-TV in Dayton reported. The building, owned by Kissinger Brothers of Versailles, was totally engulfed by flames when firefighters arrived, WHIO-TV reported. Firefighters let the fire burn itself out, the TV station said. The barn will have to be demolished, and damages are estimated at $1.5 million, the Versailles fire chief said. A processing building near the barn that houses eggs and costly equipment was saved, the TV station said. The fire's cause was under investigation, the TV station said.
