An 8-year-old Indonesian girl has been dead on avian influenza, Indonesian health ministry reported here on Monday. The girl from western part of Jakarta died on April 11 after having medical treatment since April 8, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement. The girl appeared the symptom such as fever, cough and pain on her chest in April, and was sent to the bird-flu-designed hospital in Jakarta seven days later. Test on her blood samples indicated that she was positively infected by H5N1 virus. Contact with chickens has been suspected as the cause the transmission of the virus, the statement said. The case has been reported to the World Health Organization.
