Awwal 12, 1432 / April 16, 2011, SPA -- At least eight people including six policemen were killed in an attack by suspected militants in India's north-eastern state of Manipur, officials said Saturday. According to dpa, unidentified militants had opened fire on the convoy of W Keishing, an independent lawmaker in the Ukhrul district near state capital Imphal on Friday. "The attack left seven people, including six police, dead on the scene and wounded six including Keishing who suffered injuries on his hand," an official from Imphal's police control room said, requesting anonymity. "Another man who was wounded, succumbed to the injuries at a hospital on Saturday," he added. Police said no militant group had claimed responsibility for the attack and a massive search operation had been launched to arrest the assailants.
