Six people were killed in two attacks by separatist rebels in India's north-eastern Manipur and Assam states, news reports said today. Five people were killed when armed militants entered a bakery at Ninthoukhong village, about 40 kilometres south of Manipur capital Imphal, and fired indiscriminately at workers sleeping there late Thursday, IANS news agency reported. "Investigations are on and security forces have launched a hunt to nab the rebels," Manipur police official A Singh was quoted as saying. Manipur has at least 19 rebel groups with demands ranging from greater autonomy to independence. More than 20,000 people have been killed in the state since the 1960s. -- SPA
