Awwal 05, 1432 / April 09, 2011, SPA -- Seven gunmen and one civilian were killed in two separate attacks in Iraq, police sources said on Saturday. Police forces launched a search and raid operation in the western part of the country when they received information that gunmen were holding a kidnapped businessman in the area. The gunmen killed the businessman when they realized they were surrounded by police, dpa reported. The ensuing firefight left all five kidnappers dead. The abductors had been hiding between Salahaddin and Anbar provinces, some 175 kilometres north-west of Baghdad. In Kirkuk city, police shot down two gunmen when they attacked a checkpoint, the head of Kirkuk police Sahrhad Qader said.
