Hackers attack websites of Russian paper, blog

Awwal 04, 1432 H / April 08, 2011, SPA -- A cyber attack has paralyzed the website of a popular Russian independent newspaper, days after similar attacks knocked off Russia's most popular blogging site, according to AP.
Dmitry Muratov, the editor of Novaya Gazeta, says the newspaper's website was down early Friday after a massive denial-of-service attack.
Live Journal, Russia's most popular blogging site, suffered sustained outage earlier this week.
President Dmitry Medvedev, an avid blogger, on Thursday condemned that attacks as «outrageous and illegal.»
Muratov said he believed the attacks are linked to parliamentary and presidential elections that will take place later this year and next year, respectively.
