Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, was shot dead in Moscow Saturday, Interfax news agency reported, sparking an outcry among the Russian public and politicians, according to dpa. Politkovskaya's body was found by a neighbour in the lift of her apartment block. Police seized a type-PM gun and four bullet shells from the scene, and were searching for a young man captured on the building's security video. The 48-year-old mother of two became famous for her critical reporting on the war in Chechnya. A winner of countless journalism awards, she wrote mainly for the small Novaya Gazeta in Moscow. The editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Dmitri Muratov confirmed the murder. "She was shot dead in the entrance to her house," he said.
