Akhir 27, 1432 / April 1, 2011, SPA -- A transport strike has idled trains, buses and subways across Italy, as AP reported. Unions are protesting budget cuts and the lack of a new contract in a 24-hour strike ending Friday evening. Hundreds of regional trains serving commuters were idle, but longer distance trains connecting Italy's major cities and tourist destinations were mostly running on schedule. The strike closed the Rome and Milan subways and halted buses after 9 a.m. Unions agreed to maintain some service during rush hours.
