Akhir 05 , 1432 H. / March 10, 2011 -- German train drivers are causing commuter chaos across the country with a short morning strike in a pay dispute with the state-owned national railway and smaller private operators, according to AP. Some 800 drivers walked off the job for six hours starting at 4 a.m. Thursday, shutting down hundreds of trains and subways in scores of cities including Berlin, Hannover, Munich and Stuttgart. The GDL union is demanding a one-size-fits-all pay agreement covering drivers who work both for the main national railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, and private companies that operate some routes and in some case pay lower wages. The union said Monday its members voted for all-out strikes but the union has not said when they might happen.
