Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been informed by the head of the U.N. nuclear agency that there is little risk of a nuclear meltdown in Japan and the radiation released so far is minimal. “The Secretary-General spoke by phone this morning with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, who informed him that the there was no danger of a chain reaction at the nuclear reactors in Japan,” spokesman Farhan Haq said at a regular news briefing. “The director-general said the release of radioactivity from the reactors had been minimal and there should be minimal health consequences as a result,” Haq added.
