Akhir 1432 H. / 11 March 2011, SPA -- An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale and three smaller quakes shook Nicaragua's Pacific Coast on Friday, with no immediate reports of casualties or other damage according to dpa. The public Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies said that the quakes took place between 1000 and 1657 GMT with epicenters in the Pacific Ocean. Seismologist Angelica Munoz noted that the area often experiences quake activity, due to the colliding Cocos and Caribbean plates. Many of these quakes pass unnoticed. Nicaragua's Pacific coastal region was on alert for possible waves in the wake of the powerful quake that shook Japan earlier Friday. Nicaraguan authorities estimated that a modest tsunami might hit their shores after 2215 GMT.
